In addition, we’ve also noticed that there are a lot more requirements this time around to obtain evidence by the end of the Concept Design stage! To help ensure that you don’t miss out on any of these credits (as you really won’t want to) we’ve put together a list of those here: Man01 (credit 1) – project team roles and responsibilities need to be confirmed by end of Concept Design Man01 (credit 2) – ensure all relevant third party stakeholders have been consulted on the project Man01 (credit 3) – appoint a BREEAM AP to oversee design Man02 (credit 1) – Undertake outline elemental life cycle cost analysis Hea02 (pre-requisite) – a site specific indoor air quality plan has been produced Hea06 (credit 2) – A suitably qualified security specialist (SQSS) conducts an evidence based security needs assessment (SNA) Ene01 (credit 2) – a preliminary design workshop is held with the relevant members of the design team on energy performance Ene04 (credit 1) – passive design analysis is carried out and measures implemented which result in a meaningful reduction in total energy demand Ene04 (credit 2) – an LZC (low zero carbon) feasibility study establishes the most appropriate recognised local LZC energy source for the building Ene07 (credit 1) – client engagement determines occupant requirements and defines the laboratory performance criteria Tra01 – a travel plan needs to have been developed with involvement of the client or occupier of the building Mat01 – initial LCA of the major building elements needs to be carried out. This then needs to be updated at Technical Design to maximise credits awarded Mat03 (credit 1) – a sustainable procurement plan needs to be in place Mat06 (credit 1) – identify opportunities (with appropriate measures investigated and implemented) to optimise the use of materials in building design, procurement, construction, maintenance and end of life. This needs to occur at every RIBA stage Wst01 (credit 1) – if demolition is occurring, then a pre-demolition audit needs to be carried out Wst05 (credit 1) – conduct a climate change adaptation strategy appraisal for structural and fabric resilience Wst06 (credit 1) – a building-specific functional adaptation strategy study, which includes recommendations for measures to be incorporated to facilitate future adaptation Le02 – project team liaise and collaborate with representative stakeholders to identify and consider ecological outcome for the site Le03 (credit 1) – construction programme is provided early to ensure disturbance to wildlife is minimised. How many of the 9 below points are you already practising? #PledgeLessPlastic LessPlastic BREEAM 2018 New Construction BRE Event, London – Our Notes!9 May, 2018, by dazbert 9 May, 2018, by dazbert We updated you all on the big changes to the BREEAM New Construction scheme after it’s official launch by the BRE at Ecobuild earlier this year. There was an update event held by the BRE in London on Wednesday 2nd May which went into a bit more depth on the changes to the scheme. We went along so you didn’t have to, and here are the highlights: Man05 commissioning is now a minimum standard for an Excellent rating. There is a new exemplary credit available under hea01. Natural ventilation credit has been removed, parts of this have been included elsewhere in the assessment. Weather files required to be used for hea04 have been updated. Ene03 has updated luminous efficacy requirements. Drying space has been removed as a standalone credit and incorporated into ene08. Slight update to wat01 benchmarks. Wst02 has been changed as wasn’t necessarily producing sustainable materials or methods in the 2014 scheme. It now incorporates a wider range of aggregates and uses. The route 1 ecology checklist must be completed by a member of the design team, as they will have a greater deal of knowledge of the site. Assessors are not allowed to complete the checklist. Pol02 benchmarks are now based on new EU directive, and the requirements will depend on whether your project is in a high or low pollution area, as the focus has shifted to local air quality now. BREEAM UK New Construction 2018 Launches at Ecobuild13 March, 2018, by dazbert 13 March, 2018, by dazbert Tracker Plus activated BREEAM 2018 UK New Construction last Wednesday to coincide with the 3-day Ecobuild exhibition, and the BRE’s own launch of the new scheme, confirming our place as the leading BREEAM online management tool and our commitment and support of our T+ users. The new BREEAM scheme has more distinction between different fit-outs of buildings; shell only, shell and core, fully fitted and simple buildings. There have also been some significant changes to the Energy, Transport, Materials and Ecology sections since the 2014 scheme. As well as the launch of the new 2018 scheme, there was of course lots to see and do at the 3-day event at the Excel in London. It was great to see so many people in attendance, as well as a wide range of companies exhibiting their commitment to a more sustainable industry.
