You need a car. Kaua‘i is THE most gorgeous island, you'd miss the best of it without a car. I guess if you were only staying a couple of nights at the Marriott, you could get away without a car. By the time you pay for airport transportation, cabs, buses & car rental for a day or two, you will not have saved any $$ by not renting a car. Do not waste valuable vacation time waiting for or on buses.
